Less asthma on farms

Study Findings:

Children who grew up on Wisconsin farms were significantly less likely to have asthma than other rural children.
Asthma rates were higher in children who lived on a farm only after age 5, compared to youngsters who were farm residents before age 5.

Asthma risk greater for smokers

Study Findings:

Current smokers are 33% more likely to develop asthma. People who had given up smoking are 49% more likely to develop asthma than those who never smoked.

Pets and dust don’t appear to reduce risk of asthma or allergies

Study Findings:

Contrary to a commonly-held theory, researchers have found that children who spend less time when they are young around pets and dust don’t appear to have a lower risk of developing asthma or respiratory problems.
