Low fat diet may protect against Alzheimers
Study Findings:
- A low fat diet rich in fish and soy can stimulate production of protein insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE).
- IDE plays a role in eliminating amyloidal peptides that cause destructive plaques and tangles in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. As found in the study, IDE is not as abundantly present in Alzheimer’s disease patients as in normal subjects.
