The typical US user on MySpace initiated an average of 39 streams in July, or slightly more than one a day.

Yahoo Video ranked second in total streams initiated by US users with 812 million, followed by YouTube with 649 million.

Myspace could be worth 15 Billion US Dollars

A comment by RBC Capital analyst Jordan Rohan saying that MySpace could be worth between $10 and $20 billion in a few years’ time has caused a stir all over the internet today.

Rohan backs up this claim — which many are taking very seriously — by pointing to MySpace’s “raw, unprecedented user/usage growth.”

Auction Giant Trademe won’t rule out MySpace look-alike

Trade Me says it’s not about to compete with websites such as MySpace and Bebo by starting its own social networking site, but won’t rule out such a move in the future.

A social networking site would be a logical step for Trade Me because it can easily overcome the first hurdle: attracting a community.

The web auction powerhouse already has a large and active community with more than one million members. Trade Me members also post short profiles with optional photos, and the company runs dating website Find Someone and Old Friends, which connects alumni from schools, universities and workplaces.

Technology head Jon Macdonald says Trade Me is concentrating on other projects, such as its smaps and jobs websites, where the company sees clearer potential, rather than social networking.

However, Mr Macdonald wouldn’t rule a site out, and says one could figure in Trade Me’s future.

MySpace and YouTube next on Universals Hit-List

The ‘big suit’ of Universal Music: Doug Morris has released his ‘top secret, evil plan’ on how he is going to make his next few billion. And shock horror! He is going to sue!

But this time he is not suing some 12-year-old kid because he/she downloaded The All American Rejects Album - this time he is going for the biggest sites on the web ‘Myspace and You Tube’ saying “these new businesses are copyright infringers and owe us tens of millions of dollars.”

Our old friend Doug is not really up with the times and is pissed off about the music videos uploaded to Myspace and You tube.

Universal doesn’t seem to see the potential these sites have unlike other labels such as Warner Music in which many of the bands signed to them upload there music videos to make the most of the free promotion available which has the potential to reach millions of people.

This could also be a big hint that www.spiralfrog.com (the new ad-supported music download site endorsed by Universal) will be offering ad-supported videos available to download/stream as well.
