Homeowners worry as cost of mortgages creeps up
‘RISING interest rates are a major concern for a growing number of Britons, according to research published today.
A poll by Bradford & Bingley found that 69 per cent fretted over rate hikes, while 32 per cent of mortgage holders said they would be worried if their monthly payments went up by £50.
Nearly a quarter - 22 per cent - would be concerned if rates rose by up to 0.5 per cent and a further one in five would be concerned if they climbed by one per cent. Only 30 per cent said they were unconcerned about rises, compared to October 2003 when rates stood at 3.5 per cent and 51 per cent of people had no worries.’
