Credit or debit? How do you pay?
‘When you stop on the way home from work to pick up some milk, how do you pay? Cash? Check? Credit card? Or do you just pull out your debit card?
Increasingly, plastic is the payment method of choice.
Electronic payments, including debit and credit cards, surpassed checks for the first time ever last year, according to the Federal Reserve. At Visa, debit card volume grew by almost 20 percent and eclipsed credit card transactions, the company reported.
Consumers are using credit cards for smaller amounts, too. Last year, more than 3 billion transactions were for under $5. With cards accepted not only at convenience stores but also in vending machines, those “$15 minimum charge” signs are a thing of the past.’
