Get out of debt
‘At the end of April I managed to have no credit card debt, no student loans. Only a car note, rent and living expenses. I went to the University of Missouri on a basketball scholarship. I received a fellowship at SU for graduate school, but I still had about $7,000 in loans, and I had about $5,000 in credit card debt.
Motivation
One of my top priorities was to be debt-free. Being a student, you’re poor and I was ready to get out of that lifestyle. So first I transferred my credit card debt from a Discover card with about 15 percent interest to a Bank of America card with about 4.3 percent interest. That rate was locked in until after I paid off my transferred debt. I still have about five or six credit cards, but I don’t use them. It’s good to have them for my credit report and to show discipline. I haven’t used a credit card in two years.’
