Millions wasted on ‘poor value’ direct debits

‘BRITONS are wasting millions of pounds a year on direct debits and subscriptions they wish they had never set up, research showed today.

The use of direct debit has soared fourfold in the past ten years and three-quarters of people in the UK now use the facility.’

    Hmmm… I would have thought that if they didn’t like the direct debits they could just call their banks ans cancel them?

    Seems stupid to just let the money keep going out of their accounts!

    Certainly seems like that. The only awkward ones are those for credit cards which seem to continue even if you cancel the credit card.

    I’ve not forgotten any of those (refuse to have them), but if you have something like AA membership coming out of it, then I can well understand people seeing the bill come out, and not doing anything.

    They ought to though!!!

    Of course that is exactly why companies want you to setup direct debit.
