MySpace

MySpace is a social networking site, very similar to Bebo.

The only real difference is that users can more easily create their own layouts, and that it’s a little simpler (usually) to read what people are saying, because for some reason, the English skills of MySpacers seem to be a little up from those of Beboers.

Bands seem to find MySpace easier to use than Bebo, and many artists rise from obscurity through the site, by communicating directly with their fans… such as the infamous Tila Tequila.

Pink Tinted Sunnies

The short-lived craze of aviators seems to have brought in another sunglasses trend, those with pink-tinted lenses.

Pink lensed sunnies don’t really do a great job (in general) of protecting one’s eyes, but they certainly look good, and they are a great accessory to wear with a pink outfit. The most popular look similar to aviators - just pink, but others are rimless, and these are also worn a lot.
Best of all, as they’re mostly just for show anyway, it doesn’t even have to be sunny to wear them!

Elastic Board Shorts

Glassons was doing a pomotion this year, where you got a free pair of short board shorts with every bikini you bought.

Naturally, this meant that pretty soon, everyone was wearing them. Some were zebra patterned, some with interesting colours and shapes, and others just plain.

“Free - with this purchase” always works.

Patterned Bikinis

A walk along the beach this summer would probably have shown a bit of a trend in what was being worn.

Glassons has been leading the craze of the patterned swimwear, with spots and stripes as the main attraction. Teamed with bright colours, how can they not appeal to a generation of teenage girls?

Chunky Beaded Necklaces

Beaded necklaces are in stores again, but not small beads.

Now, thick, chunky beads are back. Bold, primary colours, as well as plain black are very popular among girls… and the cheap-to-maunfacture necklaces are generally ridiculously overpriced, due to their popularity.

Still, it’s all the name of fashion.

Bebo

Bebo is a social networking site, very popular among teenagers.

It allows young people (or anyone really) to publish information about themselves (favourite music, schools, interests, location, age) online, for other people to read. Users can write blog entries, create quizzes, and connect with friends to communicate.

The site has become a social phenomenom, but it won’t be helping much with developing English skills when the general introduction reads something like “hey wadup pepz..ths b ur gurl stef!! ima half nuiean n half palangi!!i go 2 westlake galz onda shor…LOL oh shame” …

Cropped Cardies

Normal cardies were back, and following in their wake is a summer favourite - the cropped cardie.

Some are thick, some are thin, some have large knitted holes in them… but they’re meant for summer, as little more than an accessory so it doesn’t look as though one is expecting the hot weather before it comes (that’s just seen as pretentious).

Although, sometimes they’re a winter accessory too… (and they must be accessories because who would actually wear this on a snowy day?).

Short Sleeved Hoodies

These have soared in popularity recently.

Shortsleeved hoodies have hit, and everyone seems to be wearing them. Green is one of the most popular colours, along with the obvious black and white.  Walking down the street, about one tenth of young girls will be wearing short sleeved hoodies of some description.

Unfortunately, these hoodies aren’t great on a hot day… because most girls wear them alone - meaning they can’t be unzipped much more than this. Not very practical, but they look alright.

Voile Tops

Perhaps it’s unpredictable weather, perhaps it’s something else, but voile tops over singlets seem to be very popular this year.

They’re showing up in stores across the country, as well as on the streets… and however useless the voile tops themselves may be, teenage girls certainly like wearing them.
