Chucks

Another throwback from years past, when these were the standard canvas shoes everyone wore. Now known simply as “Chucks”, Chuck Taylors are one of the most popular brands of street shoe on the market.

When watching an old movie where all the kids are wearing Chuck Taylors, your average teenage girl in the audience will shout something along the lines of “Ohmigosh they’re all wearing Chucks!”, and while everything else the characters are wearing is hideous, their shoes are deemed acceptable.

Although back then a pair of canvas shoes cost next to nothing, today’s teens will be paying around $70NZD (minimum) simply to have the “All Star” label on the back of the heel, and/or side.

Alternatively, imitations without the labels can be purchased for little more than their old time counterparts.

One Response to “Chucks”

  1. Dad Says:

I’m working on a marketing assignment for school and I had to laugh at the “Chucks” post in regard to price. I grew up ‘back in the day’ and “Cons” as we called them weren’t considered cheap. In fact in this day of $100 tennis shoes I still laugh when I recall asking my mom to buy me a pair ans her irritated response,”I’m not paying $9 for tennis shoes.”

Now if anyone has ideas about a few teen trends I could focus on from a marketing standpoint I’d appreciate hearing from you.
